Song of Zechariah

Now bless the God of Israel,

Who comes in love and pow’r,

Who raises from the royal house

Deliv’rance in this hour.

Through holy prophets God has sworn

To free us from alarm,

To save us from the heavy hand

Of all who wish us harm

Remembering the covenant,

God rescues us from fear,

That we might serve in holiness

And peace from year to year;

And you, my child, shall go before

To preach, to prophesy,

That all may know the tender love,

The grace of God most high.

In tender mercy God will send

The Dayspring from on high,

Our rising sun, the light of life

For those who sit and sigh.

God comes to guide our way to peace

That death shall reign no more,

Sing praises to the Holy One!

O worship and adore!

Confession of Sins

L:  Almighty God, our heavenly Father,

C:  we have sinned against you in our thoughts, in our words, in our deeds, and in all that we have not done. Forgive us in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Deliver and restore us, that we may rest in peace.

L:  By the mercy of God we are redeemed by Jesus Christ, and in him we are forgiven.  Let us rest in his peace until the rising of the sun  when we shall serve him in newness of life.

C:  Amen.

Psalm 98

Refrain

The Word became flesh and lived among us.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Sing to the Lord a `new song,
for he has done mar`velous things.

The Lord has made his sal`vation known

and revealed his righteousness to the `nations.

He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of `Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation `of our God.

Refrain

The Word became flesh and lived among us.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Shout for joy to the Lord, `all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with `music;

make music to the Lord 'with the harp,

with the harp and the sound of `singing.

Shout for joy before the `Lord, the King.

He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with `equity.

Glory be to the Father and `to the Son

and to the Holy `Spirit,

as it was in the be`ginning,

is now, and will be forever. `Amen.

Refrain

The Word became flesh and lived among us.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Lesson – 2 Samuel 7:8-16

8 You are also to say the following to my servant David.

This is what the LORD of Armies says. I took you from the pasture, from following sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel. 9 I have been with you wherever you went. I have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make your reputation great, like that of the great ones on the earth. 10 I will set up a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them there. They will dwell there, and they will not be disturbed again. Violent men will not afflict them again as they did at the beginning 11and ever since the day I appointed judges over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies.

The LORD also declares to you that the LORD himself will make a house for you. 12 When your days are complete and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your seed, who will come from your own body. I will establish his kingdom. 13 He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he sins, I will discipline him with a rod used by men and with blows of the sons of men. 15 My faithful mercy will not depart from him as I removed it from Saul, whom I removed to make room for you. 16 Your house will stand firm, and your kingdom will endure forever before you. Your throne will be established forever.

P: Into your hands I commend my spirit.

C: (sing) Into your hands I commend my spirit.

P: You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth

C: (sing) Into your hands I commend my spirit.

P: Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

C: (sing)  Into your hands I commend my spirit.

Hymn – 80 Angels from the Realms of Glory

1  Angels from the realms of glory,

Wing your flight o’er all the earth;

Once you sang creation’s story;

Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:

Come and worship, come and worship,

Worship Christ, the newborn King.

2  Shepherds, in the fields abiding,

Watching o’er your flocks by night,

God with us is now residing-

Yonder shines the infant light.

Come and worship, come and worship,

Worship Christ, the newborn King.

3  Magi, leave your contemplations;

Brighter visions beam afar.

Seek the great desire of nations;

You have seen the Savior’s star.

Come and worship, come and worship,

Worship Christ, the newborn King.

4  Saints before the altar bending,

Watching long in hope and fear,

Suddenly the Lord, descending,

In his temple shall appear.

Come and worship, come and worship,

Worship Christ, the newborn King
